Figuring out your motivations
Motivations matter. People can do the same thing but for wildly different reasons. For instance, a person’s primary goal in becoming a lawyer might be any of the following: to help people, to make money, to earn prestige, or because they like crafting and delivering a compelling argument.
Action Item:
Think about some of your career interests (past or present). What are the motivating factors you feel pulling you in the direction of those career interests? Try to ignore the feelings of what “should” pull you, instead focus on what actually does pull you. Write them down in your trail journal. Rank your ‘pulls’ into categories: 1. Strong pull; 2. Moderate pull; 3. Weaker pull.
