What did you want to be when you were little?

Think back to when you were small – elementary-age or younger. When someone asked the classic question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” – did you have a standard response? You might remember dressing up as someone with this career for Halloween, or doing a report about them in school. What were your childhood aspirations for the future?

Action Item:

Write all of your childhood “when I grow up” dreams down in your trail journal, leaving a few lines of space between each item.  Add in some of the job and career dreams you have now.

Now, go over your list again and think about why you want/wanted those jobs.  Write down what appealed to you about each of those jobs or goals.

There’s probably something in each of our job dreams — even those from childhood — that you can still relate to. Maybe it’s the pursuit of beauty, or knowledge, or adventure that you felt as a child and still identify with today.  Start a new list in your trail journal, and write down the things about your childhood dreams that still appeal to you and the desires from back then that you still have.
